Most simple retirement calculators assume your contribution and your return rate stay perfectly flat for 30 years, which nobody's actually does. This version adds two things most free calculators skip: your contributions growing with you (raises, cost-of-living bumps), and a realistic range instead of one falsely precise number.

Projected balance at retirement$0
Conservative estimate (return βˆ’2%)$0
Optimistic estimate (return +2%)$0
Total you'll have contributed$0
This is a planning estimate, not a guarantee β€” actual market returns vary year to year and this doesn't account for taxes, fees, or Social Security.

How this is calculated

Each year, your monthly contribution grows by your chosen percentage (matching typical raises), while your employer match is assumed to grow at the same rate as your own contribution. The balance compounds monthly at your expected return rate. The "conservative" and "optimistic" columns rerun the same projection at 2 percentage points below and above your expected return, so you can see how sensitive the outcome is to the one number nobody can actually predict.

For the fundamentals behind the numbers here, see the 401(k) match guide and how much risk to take by age.
